World of Warcraft gets another expansion, the Alliance gets another ass beating...

*sigh*

So the synopsis is...Garrosh escapes after the end of Mists of Pandaria, then goes back in time to Outland before it blows up, and unites all the Orc tribes under his leadership, and provides them with technology he brought with him from the future.

Yes, you read that right. No, this isn't some lame fan fiction (I don't blame you for thinking that, but I must say...you haven't been observing Blizzard very well). This is the actual new expansion for World of Warcraft.

Why was I expecting anything else...was I even expecting anything else?

So, I have a blog, and people use their blogs for bitching, so, let's bitch...

(Disclaimer: I have no idea what happens during Mists of Pandaria, because frankly, I stopped playing before I even got halfway through, so I'm going off what I've heard reported about the content).

You remember when Blizzard said they try and give themes a rest after they've used them? how they don't do two expansions back to back with a heavy focus on the same thing?

Warlords of Draenor marks the third expansion in a row where the Horde get to be all powerful expansionist conquerors, and the Alliance is just...there. It's the third expansion in a row with the major focus being either on the Horde or Horde characters.

It's the second expansion in a row where Garrosh has been a central character (And it sounds like he's still going to be around a while more). It's the second time the Horde has gotten a makeover.

...and people are still going to deny that Blizzard has a major hard-on for the Horde...

Maybe, just maybe, the Alliance won't get completely relegated to the role of plot device for the Horde, I'd certainly like that to be true...but the early warning signs, along with past precedent is all there...

The narration of the trailer is done by an Orc, about the Horde, and how powerful and wonderful it is. 90% of the trailer footage is focusing on the Horde, the promotional art is focused on the Orcs...

You a Draenei fan? excited to see them at some relative peak of civilization? well I wouldn't hold your breath, because historically, when the Horde formed on Draenor, their first act was to commit genocide against the Draenei...

I find it funny how Garrosh is going back in time to stop the Orcs becomes slaves of the Burning Legion, and then...leading the Horde on to do exactly the same things they did under the Burning Leigion.

Now, granted, it's probable that it will be both the Alliance and the Horde fighting against Garrosh's Iron Horde...but it's also been said that Garrosh 'unites the Orc clans', so, I don't know how that will work out...it would make more sense, since no other villain has been hinted at, if Garrosh was the main villain (Again...Illidan and Arthas are probably fuming from beyond the grave), but still...it's another case of the Horde races getting to be badasses, and the Alliance races just being there to provide a punching bag.

A comment on MMO Champion on Blizzcon does say "The dark days from the early Warcraft are coming again and will be the Alliance's finest hour." But, you know...the Alliance actually lost the first war against the Horde, and the conclusion to the second war against the Horde ended with the entire Alliance army being lost...so honestly, I have no idea what Blizzard is talking about here.

They mention that this expansion will lead directly into the next one, and maybe THAT is when the Alliance gets it's big hour, but, seriously? waiting four expansions for the Alliance to finally catch a break?

And as people have said, the problem isn't even that the Alliance is the underdog at the moment...it's the fact that the Alliance is just completely ineffectual as a faction. The Alliance doesn't even put up a good fight, or get involved in world affairs, or even care what happens within it's own borders...like I said, it would NICE if that wasn't the case this time around, but I'm at the stage of 'I'll believe it once I see it'.

Or maybe they just mean that the 'Alliance's finest hour' will be a heroic last stand where they all get slaughtered...

And then there is the detail about the 'Alliance's finest hour' being in the PAST, that is to say, Blizzard is perhaps unintentionally saying that the Alliance best days are already behind it...

You know, I remember Blizzard spinning all their shit about the war back at the beginning of Cataclysm, and how it was just 'the Horde's turn' to be on top and how they were 'evening things up' and how 'you can't have a war without breaking a few eggs'.

Well, here we are, on the verge of the Horde's third military might parade in a row, the Alliance overall as a faction is still neglected, and it looks like the Alliance will have to wait another full expansion before it gets any real love...
